7 things every local business website needs

20 October 2026 · 4 min read

People rarely read a local business website from top to bottom. They arrive from Google or Instagram with one question, and leave the moment they can't find the answer. Get these seven right and your site will do its job.

The essentials

  • What you do, in one line at the very top. "Fresh mithai and South Indian food in Belgrave" beats "Welcome to our website".
  • Prices, or at least a starting price. Customers trust businesses that show them.
  • Opening hours that are actually up to date, including bank holidays.
  • Where you are, with a map and a tap-for-directions link.
  • A one-tap way to get in touch: call, WhatsApp or a short form.
  • Real photos of your shop, food, work or team. Stock photos make you look like everyone else.
  • Proof: reviews, a few examples of work, or the year you started.

Check it on your phone

Most of your visitors are on a phone. Open your site on yours and time how long it takes to find your hours and phone number. If it's more than a few seconds, it's worth fixing.
